BUDAPEST, 12 and 13 January 2006.RURAL CREDIT GUARANTEE SCHEMES
A Financial Instrument for Agriculture and Rural Development
The future of agriculture and rural development is a significant topic in Central and East European region. The access to finance of the agricultural undertakings is a key issue in this regard. The contribution of credit guarantee is an available financial tool that assists the banks’ crediting activity. Specific issues need to be assessed prior to lending such as:
- What are the risks? How to measure and control them?
- How can a guarantee scheme assess the sustainability and viability of projects?
- How much state support is necessary?
Recognizing the importance of the above questions the Budapest workshop shared knowledge on possible ways of financing the agrarian sector and to expose the advantages ensured by a credit guarantee instrument.
